By now, the creative alias known as 0d was born. Everything I would create here on out would be in correlation to the values and principles of the 0d brand I am working on building. 0d is not just a brand however, it is the representation of an idea - a vision. It is the umbrella for further research and developments in the 0d family [eg. ex0d, bi0d, id0d, etc], some which you will come to see, and unfortunately, some I am unable to share at the moment.
I remember being frustrated because I would see, for example, so much trash in the park, left by many uneducated children and undisciplined families. This kind of behaviour saddened me, but rather than to be upset about it, mope about it, blame and accuse, I decided it was necessary for me to do something about it! Remember, you cant change anyone, only yourself. This kind of thinking and attitude is what landed me on the programme I am enrolled in today - Innovation Design Engineering.
I was already aware of the problems; there are tons! The solutions, they called for a new and different way of thinking. My life experiences have enabled me to perceive things differently than most [usually in my immediate circles]. If I can apply my skills and efforts into something I enjoy and love, I strongly believe that the manifestation of the results will benefit the whole of our civilisation. I no longer think of I. Everything I do is in the best interest of the planet and its inhabitants.
PT010 is the result of a collaboration between Adhesh Shenoy [lead engineer, aka - a^s], and myself [lead designer and conceptualizer, aka - 0d]. The collective concept was a logging device enabling users with the ability to self reflect from their logs. Adhesh and I immediately hit it off and our creative dynamic was astounding throughout the remainder of our creation.

// performance - The [upper] third layer in the IDF is the combat vest which is above the uniform and kevlar vest. How might we make a smart vest for combat operations? PT010 takes inspiration from the IDF telecommunication device known as ‘madonna’ headset/radio.
// biomimetics - Fascinated by insect anatomy, mechatronic applications were engineered on the PT010 model to mimic nature’s wonders. The two head sensors are represented to be, and are designed to look like insect antennae. They control the movement and operation of the device according to the operators commands.
// self reflection - When it comes to productivity, self-reflection ensures you’re being conscious about how you’re spending your time, and has been found to reduce stress, depression, and anxiety. Our study continued to types of, and preferred methods of logging.
// ai - Whilst our research indicated speech and writing as highest methods of reflection, PT010 was equipped with Google AP, enabling voice command. It also is capable of writing encrypted logs via morse code. a^s engineered a personality on the device, characterising it to the wearers own personality.

// wearables - Ironically, both Adhesh and I were deeply committed to innovating solutions around the field of mental health during a previous module known as EXP. [the sketches above are from the exp module]. We each spent countless hours of research.
Adhesh, I was aware, is a very skilled engineer in the space of electronics, and I was making my way into human centric design - based from my life experiences and lessons picked up along the way. Both Adhesh and I had a lot to learn from each other and we were eager to develop.
Initially we were motivated by the id0d bands and explored wearable wrist possibilities. However, part of our brief insisted on mechatronics, so we went back to the board to solve for this. The mechatronics led us to the study of biomimetics, which then gave us the idea for the retractable arm functionality, or robotic arm.
As you can see from the sketches, I am keen on incorporating some of the values inherent in the 0d brand. I already had ex0d [the exoskin], it was time for an upgrade - I needed
the exoskeleton.

// PT001 - Three servos connected to an arduino on the back control the axis of motion above the wearer’s shoulder. A raspberry pi is mounted on the arm with a camera installed on it. The pi controls the accelerometer that records the head’s movements - the camera follows.
Similar to the ‘madonna’ hand piece, PT010 is equipped with a small handheld controller with two push pins that initially were engineered to deploy the arm and snap photos. When the google API was installed to the the final prototype, the function changed to support the morse code
DOT/DASH encryption.
// prototyping - The first prototype [PT001] was developed using high grade [water resistant] poly canvas fabric, and a mountain climbing harness. When designing ex0d, I didn't actually assemble the design remember - a professional was hired. This time I was prepared; I learned a lot from ex0d. Assembling the device was my responsibility now.

PT001 was a success during the intermittent exams. All that was left for us to do was fine tune. We met during break and devised a plan of attack to design an entirely new reiterated version - we wanted a final product for the final exams. We spent countless hours of coding, sketching, and rendering and against all odds, we came up with a design suitable for our needs.

The base was laser cut - black acrylic sheet [5mm]
The 'smartpack' was designed using 3d software. The files were exported to support 3d printing. We included a wireless thermal printer to communicate the logs with the device.

recycled bicycle tire - shoulder straps
3d printed chainmail fabric
carbon fiber PLA filament - shell
thermal paper -printed logs
high grade metals and fabrics
3d printed parts and extruded branding
aluminum parts for robotic function

// reiteration - As opposed to the first design which was sewn with high grade fabric, the base is laser cut in three pieces
and the PT010 shell is entirely 3d printed using
a carbon fiber PLA
filament. The robotic arms are 5mm aluminium. The
upper strap is rubber
bicycle tire and the lower strap is a 3d printed chainmail [CF] PLA fabric.
We were building a stealthy, lightweight, and completely wireless wearable device.
outcome

// PT010 - A highly intuitive and counteractive mobile surveillance and logging device. The device responds to ‘deploy’, ‘surveil’, and ‘return’, but also the API listens for preset keywords to determine if action is needed without its wearers command. PT010 interacts, via bluetooth, with a stationary thermal printer that prints out the daily report so you can reflect on your day safely.

The sleek, lightweight design is conveniently necessary. Reaching this version of the prototype was a big achievement for us considering the time we had achieve our objective. The outcome of the dynamic was outstanding. Together we succeeded in making a product suitable for both military and civilian application.
It was one of ten [from 40] Gizmos that were selected to premiere in Imperial College London's [2022] Work In Progress [WIP] show/exhibition

// excellence - Impressive group work and special to see how much you achieved together while unifying your experiences and knowledge into one device. Excellent finish and proud to see how much effort was put into having all the components neatly placed and with a great deal of thought behind the textures and materials. It is now a finished object and in your own time you can keep tweeking its functionality. The video was to the same standard, showing it in action with some drama - thanks for the effort! -Charlotte Slingsby
Incredible implementation and interesting story. I wasn't initially sure what the purpose was this supposed to serve 9as I missed the critical review maybe?), but it became clearer toward the end of the presentation as the printout of daily patrol was generated. I liked the sort of dystopian touch as well. You guys clearly achieved some interesting element of personal collaboration on this project, I hope you will keep that going in the future. -Giulio [last name unavailable atm. Guest

PT010 was a landmark of success for Adhesh and I, and it gave birth to a new and intelligent relationship for us as innovators seeking change for the world through design and engineering.

// smartwear - Considering the achievement of our overall goal - daily
log and reflection, PT010, With continued effort, has
the potential for reaching my personal goal - smart
tacticalwear for operational [combat or paramilitary] use. It also opens a door to potential devices which could be worn for space operations. How many sensors can we wear? What will be their purpose? What data will we capture, and how will it be utilised?
