pre0d is the collection of some of the projects I managed to develop throughout my undergrad at Bezalel Academy. It is called pre0d because the works you will find in this section are the works that help lead up to artistic language I now speak fully - 0d.
It's important to note that not all of my works have been successfully archived. The following material is what I've managed to extract in order to assemble this sub-portfolio [pre0d].
The works are mainly experimental, deeply philosophical, they explore identity and reality mostly. They are the sum of the artist I have become; the screen is my canvas.

This multi-phased project originated in the two dimensional space. Given the tools available to us we were requested to create collages.
I scavenged the Academy for old computer parts, printed a series of pictures from the web and began to cut them out, placing them above the parts.
This created the cyborg human-machine effect that I personally found very clean and interesting, aesthetically but also in depth.
For phase two we were instructed to create a short video art piece exploring the results of the collage.
Here, I moved from the 2d space to the 3d, were I quite literally am exploring the contrast between the human parts and computer parts in the creation of a humanoid in a dystopian future.

The third and final phase would be the cumulation of the first two and the use of physical space to represent further the results from both previous phases.
I wanted to bring the humanoid to life in the gallery space; to give a Frankenstein of the future kind of vibe, so i decorated the gallery as if it were the compound of mad scientist and we [male & female] were its
first prototypes.

This was a project for my after effects course. I was excelling, so for the final project of this course I set myself an additional challenge that was not a part of the brief. I wanted to build 3d objects for the short film I was shooting to give it an extra sense of dystopia
and hyper-realism.
Examples of the the elements created can be found here, and attached to the end of this project you can see my attempt at compositing in the short video segments. I was extremely satisfied with the results as it was my first time using 3d software for video editing. Above that, I had to teach myself which was very satisfying and was very useful for when I actually did take a course
in compositing.

This project drew inspiration from the first 'Stranger Things' season. I was interested in exploring the dark voided space. The emptiness, the vastness, of space and time.
Interestingly enough, overlaying the videos with VHS scratches sparked my interest in observing an d experimenting with analog/digital video later on in my artistic transformation.
After filming the scenes the footage was edited to suit three 90's style television exhibited in the galley space at Bezalel Academy.

Jerusalem Market 24hrs
The fresh market in Jerusalem [aka - Shuk Machne Yehuda] populates a large verity of people on a daily basis. There is a 'hussle and bussle' about it that nobody really slows down to observe the locality of the place and its occupants.
I found myself observing like a 'fly on the wall' [later would complement frequency0d and help define my artistic language].
During the night, the stores close and many bars open to the public. I wanted to capture 24 hrs on site and display it in an unconventional way. Here again I pushed myself beyond the brief of documentary film - in this case, and pursued doco-instillation [which I have not ever yet come across].
Below is the only documentation of the instillation that I actually
still have.

I was really lucky to have an excellent Israeli artist [Ohad Matalon] teach me a course in stills photography. I do not have much documented from his course during this first year, however I was taught much about aesthetics, composition, subject and artistic exploration. Also he spent a great deal of time educating us on picture philosophy.

This project too was developed early in Ohad Matalon's course and received a great deal of feedback from tutors and engagement from peers. This was the first installation I ever created. Initially it was designed to project stills photography, later I was requested to compose video footage to exhibit this work on the open day at Bezalel Academy [in my first year!].
I built the glass aquarium with a small hole in the back and injected it with smoke every once in a while. Then I projected the footage onto it and it created a milky, 3d like, visual texture within the aquariascreen, and fragmented reflection projected behind it - the smoke then played an interesting part on the image projected on
the wall.

Here again I explore the strange and supernatural. using just two door and frames, I wanted to give the feeling of endlessness. The doors gave infinity mirrors new context. It is a door, a passageway to the unknown, a portal.
A camera connected to a projector filming in a closed loop is giving the endless effect. This course in video art taught me to think creatively and minimally; how to convey a powerful message using only what is
available to me.

This work allowed me to explore my boundaries. This too was a first year project that was highly discussed among my peers. It was the first time I was working with such a large amount of space. The large space gave me a sense of freedom that allowed me to gain and understand the concepts of abstraction and expressive art.
The structure is made entirely of two full, unravelled rolls of yarn. We were exploring space and time. I wanted them to feel absent in the presence of this strange installation.

This installation too was part of the video art course I was taking. As the case for the doors and frames, here too I attempt to remain in the are of minimisation and resourcefulness exploring some of the elements my home in the US was made of - carpet and [termite] wood. On the carpet I attempted to convey by projecting onto it, how I felt in this childhood home.

Both videos are examples of earlier works from the After Effects course. They were edited using found footage from the internet. We were tasked with exploring
effect options on 1-2
different frames.
Here again I challenged myself to not only edit or use the editing tools available to me, but rather attempt to tell a story w/o words. This later would help me when writing the narratives of future projects left open for interpretation.
